TOPICS OF THIS WORKSHOP:
Covering Big Search Areas, Search Efficiency for Multiple Hides, Blind Areas and Building Hunting Duration

Day 1, Session 1: Covering Big Search Areas
There are many different strategies that one can use in searching large search areas. This session will explore those different strategies and then suggest the best way of working a dog in large search areas.

Day 1, Session 2: Search Efficiency for Multiple Hides
In higher competitions, it is always a challenge to know when you have found all the hides that need to be found. This session will explore some ways that you can help your dog find all the hides and help you feel comfortable when you finish an area.

Day 2, Session 1: Blind Areas
Most higher-level competition have a search area that has no hides in it. This session will provide some exercises to help you learn what your dog does in a search area with no hides in it and how to avoid problems that can occur by doing too many blind problems.

Day 2, Session 2: Building Hunting Duration
The objective of all Nose Work Training is to develop an absolute belief in the dog: 1) That there will always be a hide to be found; and 2) That the dog will always be successful. Gail calls these the “Twin Beliefs” and together they help create the proper “Hunting Mindset” in the dog. The proper “Hunting Mindset” is what is necessary for a dog to search for longer periods of time and/or to search in the absence of odor without displaying “Displacement Behaviors.” In this session, we will explore how to strengthen our dog’s “Twin Beliefs” and to develop our dog’s confidence to search for longer periods of time.
